Words!

Write all the time. Read all the time. Do It!

Writing everyday is important. This is one piece of advice every successful writer will tell everyone and anyone who asks. In fact, I always suggest any new writer who wishes to ask any author a piece of advice, I IMMEDIATELY tell them to specify to their literary hero they can’t respond to a request for advice with either the answer, “Write all the time,” of “Read all the time.” Don’t let any of your heroes off easy.

Write/Read all the time is just a given. Do it.

About a year ago, I researched and compiled a long list of, “Top 10 Rules for Starting Writers from Successful Writers.” I took those lists and found the constantly repeated rules and ideas which turned into a “Master List.” I’ll hunt that down and share it. These are not my rules. These are the rules successful working writers all agree on and share. I just boiled down a lot of opinions to find the connective tissue one and all shared.

Today I knocked out 1300+ words today. My goal is 1000 for now. I’m hoping to hit 2000 in a few months. I’d like to max out at 5000. We all need goals, even unattainable ones. Shoot for the stars!

I read AT LEAST one hour a day. I’m sure I hit about three hours.

My life is both boring and focused now. I write. I read. I do what I can to keep my family happy and safe. I fit in exercise as I can.

Need to begin a routine? Start with tapping out 250 words per day. That’s roughly one page. Do that for a year and you’ll have a book. Don’t think about the end goal. Don’t become overwhelmed with the idea of writing that 100,000 words monsters. Focus on one page. 250 words. You have time.

Write/Read every day. One day at a time. Do it. You got this.

Professional Jealousy: Good or Bad?

I’ve heard many counsel to avoid professional jealousy towards your fellow writers. However, we are human beings and when you see someone achieve a goal you’ve been working at, you can’t help but get a little annoyed and jealous of them. That isn’t to say you can’t also be incredibly happy for them at the same time.

Things are a brewing

So in the past few weeks, I’ve attended a couple small, local shows with varied results, which happens. It appeared everyone is still recovering from
